Pennies and pounds were raised for Pudsey on Friday when fun and fund-raising combined to make Children In Need a great success.

Pupils arrived in schools in wacky costumes, collecting tins were rattled by big-hearted volunteers and pubs across the district organised mad-cap games.

The staff at the minor injury unit at Deal Hospital even raised cash by keeping quiet.

Receptionist Mary Lee left her usual position behind the desk and sat in the waiting room to celebrate her 60th birthday by undertaking a two-hour sponsored silence.

Colleagues, family and friends joined in the big day by baking cakes and cookies to support the event.

Pubs pulled out the stops to raise cash for Pudsey, including The Magnet, London Road, Deal, where Deal and District Motorcycle Club had sponsorship for a series of fun events.

Mandy Smith sat in custard to raise money and, with a raffle, a total of £1,460 was collected, with more money still to be donated.
