Pupils at a Maidstone primary are set to enjoy a prize tour of a venue preserving Kent’s illustrious maritime heritage.
St Francis Catholic Primary School in Maidstone was presented with free-entry vouchers to the Historic Dockyard Chatham by representatives of Maidstone Dawn Patrol Rotary Club.
The Rotary club is paying for the school to take part in reading reward scheme Buster’s Book Club, which uses competitions and other incentives to encourage primary school pupils to spend more time reading for pleasure at home.
Buster’s Book Club prizes include a Class of the Week Trophy, celebrity story-time visits, and tickets to attractions that also include Wildwood animal park near Herne Bay, Diggerland in Medway and Leeds Castle.
The dockyard vouchers were presented to St Francis during a special assembly attended by book-club mascot Buster Bug and Dawn Patrol Rotary members Clinton Davis; Elaine Craven; Elke Lovett and Bryan Vizzard.
The school will present the vouchers to a class of its choice.
Buster’s Book Club literacy coordinator Kay Devine said: “We’re so grateful to Maidstone Dawn Patrol Rotary Club and Historic Dockyard Chatham for supporting Buster’s in this way.
“The fun, competitive element of Buster’s is so effective in inspiring children to read more at home, and these vouchers will surely provide them with even more motivation.”
Buster’s Book Club is run by the KM Charity Team, and also supported by Little Cheyne Court wind farm, the Kent Community Foundation, Golding Vision, Orbit, Three R’s Teacher Recruitment, Kent and Medway councils, Specsavers, Acorns Read & Grow and Hornby.
