Young reading champions have been treated to drama workshop with actors appearing in a production of Wind in the Willows.
Pupils from Dartford Primary Academy’s and Penshurst Church of England Primary won separate workshops with KD Theatre Productions after coming top in county-wide competitions with Buster’s Book Club.
The theatre company got children from the two classes to take part in scenes from their production of the classic children’s tale.
All pupils at the schools were also treated to a special assemblies with the actors.
Yasmin from Dartford Primary Academy’s winning class, Poseidon, said: “It’s been very fun today because they have been telling us about how they act and we have had a workshop as well.”
Run by the KM Charity Team, Buster’s Book Club is designed to make reading cool, and sets children home-reading targets. It involves inter-class and inter-school events, and prizes include celebrity storytime sessions and free entry to visitor attractions.
Yasmin’s classmate Lola said: “I like Buster’s Book Club because it’s fun and it inspires people to read and gives you lots of nice ideas for writing and lots of new phrases.”
KM Charity Team chief executive witnessed the workshops and said: “Well done to the children from both schools for the enthusiasm with which they’ve embraced Buster’s Book Club and these activities. They fully deserve their day in the spotlight.
“And thank you so much to KD Theatre Productions. This was such a lovely prize, and once again shows Buster’s Book Club’s ability to inspire children with a love for reading.”
