The Medway heat of the KM Big Charity Quiz attracted a record turnout with more than 40 teams taking part.
After a poor start local favourites Supernova ended up taking top spot and will be joined by Chartway, Spoilsports and Roast Beef, Leefs and Daffs in the final to take on top placed teams from sister events due to be staged in Canterbury, Ashford and Maidstone later this year. This is the third year in a row Supernova have won the Medway event.
The mammoth wine and wisdom evening raised £8,000 for a host of local causes including local road safety, walk to school and children’s literacy initiatives and the Medway Messenger charities of the year Guide Dogs for the Blind and Medway Scouts.
While every team was fighting for the KM Big Charity Quiz Trophy, five mini competitions were also running offering extra prizes to top placed teams representing the NHS, local government, Specsavers branches, Guide Dogs, Scouts and Gordon Children’s Academy.
A group of influential businesses provided support on the night with Shepherd Neame donating a lorry-load of beverages and staff from Barclays manning the bar and matching the funds raised through their pound for pound scheme. Specsavers sponsored the evening as part of the Chatham branch’s 25th anniversary celebrations, Office Angels provided a team of runners and Independent Music Productions provided technical support.
Question-master Simon Dolby said: “The atmosphere was excellent and for the event to be a sell-out and raise so much for the charity pot was icing on the cake.”
