A Kent teacher-supply agency is stepping up to the challenge of promoting literacy skills in the county’s schools.

Three R’s Teacher Recruitment will work with the KM Charity Team to promote the latter’s reading-reward scheme Buster’s Book Club.

The club uses a spirit of friendly competition to encourage children to read more at home.

Participating schools’ classes compete internally for weekly trophies. And tickets to leisure attractions and visits by celebrity storytellers are awarded to the winners of monthly inter-school challenges.

Three R’s will help promote Buster’s Book Club via special Literacy Stars assemblies. The KM Charity Team’s Literacy Stars scheme encourages children to take a leading role in projects designed to promote or develop reading, writing, speaking or listening skills in their schools.

The business has been a KM Charity Team partner for several years, and will continue to work with it as a judging and supporter organisation of the Kent Teacher of the Year Awards and kids kitchen contest Young Cooks.

Three R’s business development manager Alison Nightingale said: “Here at Three R’s Teacher Recruitment, we have welcomed the opportunity to step up our support for the KM Charity Team by adding Buster’s Book Club to our bank of initiatives we support.

“Buster’s Book Club lends itself to our business, as our work with teachers and schools often highlights the issues in Kent schools with literacy and reading. So an initiative that actively encourages and rewards pupils to read excited our charity ambassador Natalie Bond.

“We are excited to be able to promote the reading scheme to some of our schools via Literacy Star assemblies. We plan to start holding these after the summer break.”

Buster’s Book Club coordinator Kay Devine said: “Everybody at the KM Charity Team is so excited about the prospect of working with Three R’s on Buster’s Book Club.

“They have so much knowledge and experience of the schools sector in Kent, and they really are the ideal partner for the scheme.”
