Rotarians in Bexley have agreed to support two local primary schools by funding an innovative reading scheme.

Simon Dolby from the KM Charity Team, which delivers the reading reward scheme called Buster's Book Club, met club members to brief them on the details.

The two schools the club has decided to target its support towards are Pelham Primary School and Joyden's Wood Infant School. Both are clocking up successes with the scheme despite only just starting. Maple Class at the infant school and Class 6I at Pelham have both been named reading challenge winners by the educational charity.

Buster's Book Club encourages children and families to read at home through inter-class and inter-school competitive reading challenges. Classes can win tickets to leisure attractions and visits by storytellers. The competitive nature of the scheme is proving very effective at exciting children with reading, particularly boys struggling to engage with school.

Simon Dolby from the charity said: "I am so pleased Bexley Rotary Club has been able to support the reading campaign and we hope many other clubs will hop on board."
