Schools supporting students to develop a love for science can showcase their work at the KM Bright Spark Awards.
The event is staged to encourage collaborations of pupils using cross-curricular skills in maths, IT, science and engineering to innovate and create.
The annual awards event takes the form of a Dragon’s Den-style format with students invited on stage to describe their creation with the chance to win trophies and money can't buy experience prizes. Three categories are available: innovation, investigation and invention. The event's dragons will be made up of leading business people involved in the world of science and engineering.
To take part in the KM Bright Spark Awards complete the simple entry form on the www.kmcharityteam.co.uk website. Entrants should include a photo of the group in action with their creation and can optionally include a link to a video detailing their entry.
Simon Dolby from the KM Charity Team which is staging the event said: "Maths, science and engineering are critical to the success of the economy and it is vital to encourage the next generation to think about this as a career. KM Bright Spark Awards is all about making science cool and providing an engagement challenge to excite students with practical science. We really want to see what students at both primary and secondary level are doing, whether it be simple coding or designing rockets."
Finalists selected to take part in the Dragons’ Den-style final will be filmed in advance in school to show the detail of the project. This is screened at the event before the dragons begin their questioning of students. The deadline to submit a nomination for the KM Bright Spark Awards is noon on Friday, June 5, 2015.
Partners supporting the event include the science faculty at the University of Kent, Integrated Technologies Ltd, Hectic Lifestyles and Christ Church University. To find out more about becoming a dragon at the event, contact Simon Dolby on 07989 164 752 or sdolby@thekmgroup.co.uk.
