Specsavers has recommitted to supporting the KM Charity Team’s literacy and green travel initiatives for another year.

Specsavers Kent chairman Jason Gillan said the KM Charity Team’s schemes Buster’s Book Club and Walk to School were a perfect match for the company.

Mr Gillan said: “I’m proud to announce that Specsavers have decided to continue our association with the KM Charity Team for yet another year.

“We have a long-term history of supporting Walk to School and Buster’s Book Club – great initiatives reaching out to 60,000 families in Kent.

“Both link hand in hand with our strategy at Specsavers. We think about safety, and we like to ensure that children from pre-school to primary school have excellent vision, so it all fits in perfectly with literacy.

“It’s very important to tie in the eye examination for children with literacy, because they do go hand in hand: if a child has any visual problems impeding their reading it will effect their literacy. So I just try to get across the importance of regular eye tests for children.”

KM Charity Team chief executive Simon Dolby said: “We are so pleased to have Specsavers on board for another year. The support they provide for our work is invaluable, and we feel that the company is a perfect match for us.

“As Jason said, our organisations share a common commitment to child literacy, health and well-being.”

The KM Charity Team’s green travel initiatives include Super Wow, which encourages families to walk to school, while Buster’s Book Club encourages children to read extra at home.

Classes taking part in the schemes compete for weekly trophies and monthly inter-school challenge awards, with the winners receiving tickets to leisure attractions or visits by celebrity storytellers.
