It was smiles all-round this week as students studying Business at Mid-Kent College’s City Way centre in Rochester handed over £800 to the Great Ormond Street Hospital charity.

The BTEC National Certificate students had gone to incredible lengths to ensure their fund-raising activities ran smoothly.

Charity events included cake sales, name the teddy, and guess the number of sweets in the jar.

Fundraisers also organised raffles and took part in a sponsored walk.

The students had been set the challenge of raising £550 for charity as part of their college assignment work.

However this hardworking bunch decided to set their sights on an even higher goal, exceeding that target by more than £250.

Mid-Kent College student and Project Manager Taylor Richardson explained why this assignment had meant so much to the class: "Although as a group we needed to decide what activities and events we wanted to include, everyone agreed on the chosen charity from the start.

"Great Ormond Street Hospital means something really special to us because our classmate Lottie’s younger sister, Rebekah, is a patient there.’

Former patient Rebekah Robb,14 from Frindsbury, said:"I wouldn’t be able to walk if I hadn’t received the help of Great Ormond Street. This money will have a real impact on people like me who the Hospital helps every day.

"I’m really proud of my sister, Charlotte, and all her friends at Mid-Kent College who have worked so hard to raise the money. I feel touched that they chose this charity because of me."
