A nail-biting climax to the Maidstone heat of the KM Big Charity Quiz saw Supernova pip Medway Mail to the crown by a single point.
The event, staged at Maidstone Leisure Centre on Friday night, attracted 25 teams and raised £2k for charities, including Maidstone Grammar School for Girls, the children's road safety service at the KM Charity Team and the KM's charity of the year - Secamb Maidstone Community First Responders.
The top two teams had been tied going into the last round but the final set of questions, all supplied by KM readers and kmfm listeners, saw Supernova prevail. This is the third year in a row Supernova have won the Maidstone heat.
The top four teams have all earned their place in the county final at the end of the year when the county's elite quiz teams will compete for the KM Big Charity Quiz Champions Trophy.
Volunteers from Maidstone Grammar School for Girls worked hard in the hours leading up to Friday's event to prepare ploughman's meals for quests. Supporting organisations included DSH chartered accountants, Shepherd Neame, PO Ferries, Independent Music Productions, Gift Daze Recording Experiences, MHA MacIntyre Hudson and Maidstone Mcdonalds.
Quizmaster Simon Dolby told quests that next year's event would be the 10th anniversary of the Maidstone charity event and that he was keen to hear from organisations able to support of sponsor the 2015 event.
He praised all the partners for their support of the event on Friday and gave special praise to Shepherd Neame for their unfailing support of the Big Charity Quiz over the year.
