THE names of loved ones written on T-shirts of children and adults taking part in a charity walk was a sad reminder of just how many people's lives are touched by cancer.

Youngsters and their mothers and fathers, s, who had lost grandparents, parents, aunts, uncles and family friends to the disease walked in memory of those who had died - but the Cancer Research UK Stride For Life event in Folkestone was far from solemn.

Instead walkers were pleased to be doing something positive to help ensure other lives are saved and that research into the disease continues apace.

The 250 plus participants had to walk just under six miles, along a route taking in The Leas, the Road of Remembrance, Lower Sandgate Road, the Coastal Park and the zig-zag path near the bandstand. Some completed the route in 90 minutes.

The aim was to raise £25,000 for Cancer Research UK. Many walkers wore pink T-shirts, sweatshirts, trousers and even wigs, to mark the fact that October is breast cancer awareness month.

Stride For Life is a national series of more than 40 fun 10km walks for people of all ages and abilities.
