MORE than 500 teddy bears - used as a decoy for a drug consignment - have been donated to a children's hospice by Customs and Excise.
The teddies had been confiscated by Customs officers when they discovered drugs with an estimated street value of £250,000.
Not wanting the teddies to remain homeless, Customs and Excise Officers decided to donate them to the Demelza House children's hospice at Bobbing, near Sittingbourne. .
The aim now is to turn the fortunes of the teddies around, ensuring each one now goes to a good home and in the process raise as much money as possible.
Demelza House has launched a Name the Teddy campaign with each teddy, accompanied by a list of names and instructions, being located in various local outlets.
Anyone who feels they can help by running this competition within their business, club or pub, is asked to contact Lisa or Tricia at Demelza House on 01795 845228.
