An intrepid group of charity fund-raisers are set to make an assault on three mountains against the clock.

The 24-strong group from the Canterbury area have entered the Three Peaks Challenge, the ultimate test of courage, strength and endurance, on May 9-11.

They intend to climb 25 miles of routes up Ben Nevis, Scafell Pike and Snowdon.

The exercise is made more demanding by the 24-hour time limit, which requires the group to travel 450 miles by road before scaling the highest mountain peaks in Scotland, England and Wales.

The expedition will raise funds for the Kent Community Foundation, which supports worthy causes all over Kent.

One of the leaders is foundation chief executive Iain McArthur who appealed for Kent businesses to support them.

“Our target is to raise £25,000, a tall order whatever our commitment to this event,” he said.

“But I am hoping companies, large and small, from the Kent business community will get behind this most worthwhile challenge to demonstrate support from the business community.”

The group includes David Lench, managing director of Ward & Partners; Rob Balicki, managing director of Worldwide Fruits, of Ospringe; a vet, dentist, teacher, acupuncturist, housewives and mothers.
