Young people have less than three weeks to submit recipes for Masterchef-style kids kitchen contest Young Cooks.
Organised by the KM Charity Team, the competition is open to children aged six to 19 from across Kent and the south-east.
Entrants are invited to submit recipes that are healthy and delicious, with the judges giving special consideration to dishes incorporating locally sourced ingredients.
One of the judging organisations with a particular interest in local produce is Kent butcher Taylor Meats.
Taylor Meats’ Scott Taylor said: “We’re in the heart of the community. We’re retailers in the high streets of Herne Bay and Ramsgate, and the opportunity to support Young Cooks was awesome.
“Being involved last year, seeing all the energy with all the young cooks, was phenomenal. The talent out there is amazing.”
Shortlisted finalists will be invited to recreate their recipes for the judges at a Masterchef-style event in November.
Separate primary-school, family, secondary-school and overall winners will be announced, and they will share £500 in prize money.
The deadline for submitting recipes is Wednesday, November 6.
Apart from Taylor Meats, Young Cooks is supported by the Dog at Wingham, the Southern Co-op, Broadstairs College, Macknade Fine Foods, Principals by CH & Co Group, Chequers Kitchen, Brakes, Golding Homes, Three R's Teacher Recruitment, Kent Catering Services, SE Medical and Whole School Meals.
