Children at Bexley schools have been rewarded for being top for green travel
Primary schools in Bexley have shown their commitment to green travel by taking part in the KM Green Footsteps Challenge Day. Children across the region used green travel, including walking, cycling, scooting and park and stride, for the autumn term contest.
The winning classes from Jubilee Primary School & Castilion Primary School were top or most improved for green travel on 30th November - Challenge Day, they were presented with winners certificates for their hard work.
Their certificates were presented in special celebration assemblies by Mark Bunting from Green Footsteps sponsor, Bexley Council. All of the children from both winning classes were also rewarded with leisure attraction vouchers, Wallace/Tikare class from Jubilee Primary won a year’s free entry to Leeds Castle and AMC/KT class from Castilion Primary won a free skating session at Silverblades Ice Skating Rink.
Simon Dolby, chief executive of KM Walk to School, said: “I’m so pleased that Bexley schools are benefiting from the Green Footsteps walk to school scheme. Green travel tackles major issues that can’t be ignored; childhood obesity, traffic congestion and pollution, and safety at the school gate during peak school run times. All the schools taking part have helped to reduce the number of cars on the roads across Bexley district.”
Eric Hodges, from Orbit who sponsor the Green Footsteps scheme, said: "We can see the positive difference that it makes."
The Green Footsteps initiative is supported by Bexley Council, Orbit, Silver Blades Ice Rink, Leeds Castle, Kent Reliance, Eurostar, 3Rs teacher recruitment, Bel UK, Volker Highways, Countrystyle Recycling and Golding Homes.
