There are two days left to nominate in the Kent Literacy Awards and help Kent’s youngsters to ‘open doors to a world of opportunities’.
The deadline for nominations is tomorrow Tuesday, April 28.
Pupils, parents or school staff are invited to put forward the top schemes at their school for an award. The event’s organisers are looking for techniques and initiatives that are getting children excited about literacy and making a real difference in the classroom.
The winning schemes will be published and distributed to schools across Kent, Medway and Bexley.
Caroline McBride of Golding Homes said: “Being able to read and write confidently are important life skills, which will open doors to a world of opportunities. We’re delighted to be encouraging and celebrating literacy through the Kent Literacy Awards.”
The 18 categories include best writing topic; best use of IT, art or drama; best school library; and best book week theme.
Malou Bengtsson-Wheeler of children’s literacy charity Beanstalk said:“We passionately believe in rewarding outstanding initiatives and activities when it comes to increasing a child’s ability and confidence in reading. That is why we are proud supporters of the Kent Literacy Awards.
“If you know of an outstanding initiative in your local school which helps increase reading attainment then I urge you to nominate!”
The winners will be revealed at an awards celebration held at Hempstead House Hotel, Sittingbourne on Tuesday, June 23.
The awards are supported by Kent County Council, Medway Council, Mini Babybel, Specsavers, The Ernest Cook Trust, Orbit South, Leeds Castle, Three R’s Teacher Recruitment, Clarkson Wright and Jakes Ltd, Canterbury Tales, Social Enterprise Kent, and Southern Educational Leadership Trust.
