AMERICA: A Salute, the Thanet tribute concert for Red Cross aid in the wake of the terrorist attacks on America, raised £607.50 for the organisation. The event, held at Margate Winter Gardens, featured an array of local talent who gave their time and services free.

It was sponsored by Thanet Extra and its publishers, the Kent Messenger Group. The theatre was donated free for the evening by Thanet council and Thanet Leisureforce.

A spokeswoman for the organisers said: “All involved in this community event hope that the amount raised will contribute towards relieving the distress and supporting the work of the Red Cross.”
