Our charity of the year is Kent Kids Miles of Smiles.

Carers and fund-raisers invited us along to their base in Stodmarsh Road, Canterbury, for a look around their two care homes Footprints and Redwalls.

They talked about their hopes for the year ahead and plans to extend adult care home Redwalls to meet increasing demand.

“Footprints is OK for space at the moment, but our children are growing up and once they reach 18, we would love them to go to Redwalls,” said registered manager Linda George.

“Redwalls is starting to get a bit of a waiting list, so it would be great to see it extended, allowing our kids who currently use Footprints to be transferred easily, keeping the whole family together.”

The charity are also keen to recruit more volunteers to help lighten the load on their full-time staff and carers.
