A Maidstone charity shop is urging people to donate unwanted items, after finding their customers are getting pickier as the recession bites.

The Cancer Research UK store in Gabriels Hill, Maidstone, wants people to take advantage of its Donation Station scheme.

Under the scheme, people can collect Cancer Research UK carrier bags and set up an area for donations at their work place, or in schools, or just fill a bag at home and pop it into the store.

Anna Withnall, from Hollingbourne, who works as a volunteer in the store, said: "Now is the perfect time to sort out your wardrobe and have a spring clean.

"It is well known that people are turning to charity shops during the recession, but our shop definitely needs more stock.

"We have people coming in looking to buy certain items and we have noticed customers getting more discerning and looking to buy complete outfits."

Money from sales goes towards scientific research into cancer.
