Walk for water to help African families

A FOUR mile long charity walk is aiming to give the people of Canterbury an insight into what everyday life in Africa is like.

Members of the city’s Trinity Community Church are holding the Canterbury 'Walk 4 Water' next month to raise money to provide clean water for people in Africa and Asia.

“Four miles is the average distance that women and children in Africa and Asia have to walk each day to get water. The idea is for us to try and get some sort of idea of what that would be like,” said Liz Taylor, who is organising the event.

The walk, at 2pm on Sunday June 8, starts and finishes at St Stephen’s Junior School, Hales Drive.

The route is hilly in places and there are several stiles, so it is not suitable for wheelchairs or pushchairs.

Children are welcome although under 16-year-olds must be accompanied by an adult; no animals except guide dogs.

Miss Taylor said: “All we are asking is that people pay £2 to take part. They don’t need to collect sponsorship although further donations are welcome”.

*Registration forms are available from the Kentish Gazette office, 9 St George’s Place, Canterbury, or the Londis shop, Hales Drive, Canterbury. Or send a stamped addressed envelope to 39 Brockenhurst Close, Canterbury, CT2 7RX.
