Every year we and our colleagues at kmfm throw our weight behind our chosen charity of the year.

There are so many deserving causes in the district that it is always hard to choose.

Our 2008 charity was the Canterbury and District RSPCA which is hoping to build a rescue and rehoming centre in Hersden.

We helped to organise the Canterbury Big Quiz and an abseil down Canterbury Christ Church University’s Fisher Tower which on its own raised more than £4,000.

The charity now has £700,000 in the bank and is close to its £989,000 target.

We want your help to decide who we should be backing for 2009.

As we all try to combat the recession, the year will be even harder for charities to make ends meet but we can all do our best to help ease their pain.

So we want you to send us your nominations for our charity of the year.

We will then convene a panel of judges to decide who we will support.

We want to know your name, address and a daytime telephone number in case of queries.

We would also like to know the name of the charity, where they are based and as many details about what they do and why they are deserving as you can muster.

You can email using the form below or write to Charity Nomination, Editor, Gazette House, 5-8 Boorman Way, Estuary View Business Park, Whitstable, Kent CT5 3SE.
