Buying into a piece of history

HOMEBUYERS have the chance to snap up a piece of Folkestone’s history. Kent House, which dominates the corner of Bouverie Road West and Grimston Avenue, has been converted into 19 apartments.

Kent House was built in 1885 as The Folkestone Wesleyan Girls’ School. Later to become Kent College, it accommodated 74 borders and 50 day pupils.

The one, two and three-bedroom suites are now being released under the names of the previous headmistresses and dignitaries associated with the college.

Caroline Taplin, valuations manager for agent Fell Reynolds, said: “These unique apartments combine the grandeur and elegance of the original building while offering a contemporary specification, which includes a security entry phone system, lift service, fitted kitchens and bathrooms, as well as gas fired central heating and fitted carpets.”

Prices start at £65,000 for the one-bedroom Biscombe Suite, rising to £92,000 for the two-bedroom, two-bathroom De La Mare Suite and £99,000 for three-bedroom, two-bathroom James Suite. The agent is on 01303 850125.
