Don’t clutter up your next move

BRYANT Homes has launched an initiative to help people get rid of hoarded items before they move.

The housebuilder has teamed up with TV’s de-clutter and lifestyle presenter, Dawna Walter, in a New Home, New Start campaign and she has developed a range of useful tips to make moving home less of a nightmare for clutter bunnies.

Dawna says that, all too often, unopened boxes from the loft or garage are moved to new locations without justifying their need.

“Go through each box, looking at the last time you used each item,” she says. “Often years will have passed without even so much as a glance. Say goodbye to things you can live without.”

It is also a good time to evaluate your kitchen habits. Over time it is easy to accumulate too many items of kitchenware, so dispose of all crockery or glassware with chips or cracks. Let go of any gadgets you never use, such as yoghurt makers, pasta machines and juicers.

“Like any major life experience, changing homes is a new beginning and a good time to assess the things of real value,” says Dawna. “Taking the time in advance of the move to get rid of excess clutter, either by giving things away to friends, family or charity, selling things on and getting rid of junk, will lighten the load. Not only will it reduce moving expenses, it will help people maximise the space in their new home.”

As part of the New Home, New Start campaign, Bryant is offering anyone visiting a Bryant development before November 30 the chance to win a personal consultation with Dawna before they move into their new home.

She will advise the winner on how to streamline their possessions and suggest storage solutions and other ways of ensuring they do not take their hoarding habits with them.

Regional sales director Jane Stockwell said: “We want to make moving house as smooth a process as possible, so we are providing a set of Dawna’s top de-cluttering tips to everyone who reserves a Bryant home.”
