BEACHES at Broadstairs are a far cry from the bustle of the City, but it's in this seaside resort that David Bourne and his family have decided to settle.
The Bournes live at Ward Homes’ St Stephen’s Gate development in Broadstairs and let the train take the strain to work in London. David, 38, works for a Japanese Bank in Finsbury Circus.
The journey from Broadstairs to London Cannon Street takes an hour and 45 minutes. David feels it’s more than worth it for the quality of life.
The beach is a five-minute walks away, a path branches off from their new house to a field with ponies that the two children, Jade, 10, and Ashley, eight, love, and there are panoramic views over the bay out to sea.
His wife Kim said: “We've always loved the area and decided that we wanted to go for it and make the move before the children started secondary school and got too settled.”
The Bournes picked a five-bedroom detached Penshurst house type with what Kim describes as “overwhelming views” in their favourite spot. Their particular house type has a good-size garden for the children, and the room sizes are also generous.
Kim said: “The living areas are large and flow through into each other very well. We've turned the utility room into sleeping quarters and an entrance and exit to the garden for our two small dogs.
"Indeed, the layout of the Penshurst is excellent, with the living room linking to the dining room which adjoins the breakfast area, separated only by an archway to the kitchen. "
St Stephen's Gate is a development of 19 four and five bedroom detached properties, with seven different house types being created.
Mature trees and existing planting have been integrated to form a secluded and attractive environment. Prices start at £260,000. Full details are available from the sales office on 01843 867434 or visit Ward's website, www.wardhomes.co.uk
