Wisteria-encircled walls, generous, lush gardens and a swimming pool are just a few of the attractions of an idyllic old farmhouse embedded in the countryside near Faversham. reports on a special gem
A splendid Grade II listed farmhouse with exceptional timber framework and detached converted period barn, Fisher Street Farm is believed to date from the 14th century.
The elevations, partly clad with climbing shrubs, are a mix of white painted brick and flint, some exposed timber framing with white painted infill and timbered first floor oversailing jetty with dragon beam in the older north east corner of the house.
The elegant accommodation retains many original features with superb exposed timber and framework, fireplaces including a magnificent inglenook in the drawing room together with a very early wooden mullion window. Other special features include the deep well, cellar and attic room with beautiful vaulted ceiling and exposed timbers.
The detached converted period barn in the garden has been sympathetically restored and converted by Cox Restorations to provide additional bedroom space subject to consents.
There are secluded gardens with swimming pool, hard tennis court and four-bay open fronted garage.
From the entrance drive a brick path leads through the garden to a brick terrace/reception area in front of two oak doors. The right hand door has a storm porch leading to the kitchen and the left hand door with knocker opens to a reception hall.
The house lies in a glorious garden setting sheltered by walls, hedges and trees.
The garden immediately around the house has attractively-laid lawns, herbaceous beds, shrubs and a variety of established ornamental trees bounded to the east by flint and brick wall with walling and shrubbery to the south.
To the west is the entrance drive sweeping round to the garage with plenty of parking and turning. The gardens with shrubberies and a mixture of hedging including beech and yew, divide the garden into a number of areas.
Away to the east beyond the garden wall is the swimming pool garden, again walled with the barn annexe adjoining and its associated timber decking. The swimming pool has a brick surround and a raised brick bed to the eastern boundary complements the setting.
There is a rose garden with rosemary edging (roses may be taken) and an area with small kitchen garden, greenhouse with pool equipment, and potting shed attached to the neighbouring barn.
To the north of the barn annexe is a further lawn with hard tennis court.
A further enclosed area with beech hedging and mature magnolia with lawns extends through to a further sheltered area with apple trees to the north western corner.
The garage barn is a timber frame construction with a brick base beneath pitched and hipped peg tiled roof with four parking bays open to the front and to one side.
The garden store/workshop has white painted brickwork beneath a tiled roof with garage door.
Fisher Street Farm is off a quiet country lane in outstanding unspoilt North Downs countryside designated as an Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty and also a Special Landscape Area.
