A DEVELOPMENT at West Malling has been awarded the Government-backed Building for Life Standard.
The award, which has been made to Environ Sunley’s Lacuna development, aims to reward builders of high quality new developments and increase awareness of good architecture.
Speaking at the launch of the Building for Life Standard, Deputy Prime Minister John Prescott said: “The Government’s Sustainable Communities Plan identified the need to build one million new homes in the South East by 2016.
“And it’s much more than just invesing in bricks and mortar. The eco-efficiency and design of housing, the affordability of homes and paying attention to what goes on outside your front door - the streets, parks, public places and access to good public transport, local schools and shops.”
Lacuna comprises two and three-bedroom apartments and a variety of detached, semi-detached and terraced homes. Front doors and windows relate to the urban spaces of roads, paths, courts or greens.
Many houses have balconies and hanging bays.
