KINGSMEAD Stadium, once home to Canterbury City Football Club, the Canterbury Crusaders speedway team and a greyhound racing track, is being transformed into a prestigious waterside residential address to be known as Kingsbrook Park.
The scheme of 184 homes is on a peninsula site, surrounded by the River Stour on three sides, designated as a waterway of Nature Conservation Interest due to its wildlife.
The one, two and three-bedroom apartments and three and four-bedroom houses have river views and views of the historic Cathedral.
The site is a short stroll from the historic city centre and a 10-minute walk from Canterbury West Station for connections into London and Ashford.
The properties at Kingsbrook Park will be designed around attractive landscaping including a new public park and improved riverfront complete with a new riverside walkway and cycle path.
To compliment the character and variety of architecture within the City walls, the scheme combines traditional Kent vernacular with contemporary architectural features so the homes will have attractive facades, some with river frontage, and many with private gardens and views of the open landscaped park.
"Our aim is to provide Canterbury with an attractive and highly sought after community of beautiful riverside homes which will bring this historic site back to life," said a spokesman for Berkeley Homes Kent.
Kingsbrook Park will be launched in early 2008 and Berkeley Homes will release more details of the internal layouts, specification, design and prices in the New Year.
