The National Association of Estate Agents supports the select committee’s report on the proposed Housing Bill, in particular its calls for further research into Home Information Packs.

The committee supports the NAEA’s views that there is no indication that HIPs will actually speed up the buying process as the buyer and seller are not able to exchange contracts any sooner than the current system.

The report also supported the NAEA’s long-standing campaign for the licensing of estate agents, as a way of increasing professional standards on the high street.

New homes’ sales rates remain steady despite recent reports of a slowdown in the market, according to the East Kent division of RPC Land & New Homes.

The department has exceeded its targets for the first part of the year.

Mary-Anne Strable, area sales manager for RPC, said: “We are continuing to see a steady rate of sales.

“However, some developers are now offering incentives such as part exchange, stamp duty paid or help with the deposit, which is good news whether you’re moving up the property ladder or setting out to buy your first home.”
