Tips on keeping your home safer this winter

PRIMARY Direct has put together a checklist to keep homes safer during the long winter months. The list includes:

* Check that the garden fence is in good order as this will not be covered by your home insurance policy for storm damage.

* Check for leaking, loose or damaged gutters and downspouts.

* Clean gutters, spouts and exterior drains and ensure the openings drain away from the house.

* Check grids are clear of leaves and debris.

* Check for decay around windows and replace rotten wooden frames.

* Check all outside doors are sealed properly and have no broken weather stripping.

* Check the flashings around the chimney and check that the flues are clean and free from obstructions such as birds's nests.

HONEYGROVE Properties Limited's Post Office Square development, in the centre of Tunbridge Wells, was recently the venue for an informal evening of music by the Chamber Academy Quartet.

The quartet, which comprised Suzanne Kingham on violin, Stephen Shakeshift on viola, David Burrowes on cello and Luke Stevens on flute, played pieces by Mozart, Haydn and Rossini.

Purchasers, as well as the first of the development's residents attended the event held in The Courtyard, which will be a landscaped garden forming the focal point of the development and is due for completion at the end of the year.

ESTATE agent Your Move is reminding the public of the importance of choosing an agent who is a member of the Ombudsman for Estate Agents Scheme. Andrew Trantum, divisional sales director for the firm, said: "As a nation we are encouraged to complain more about any inferior goods and services we receive. This may be easy to do on the high street, but where do you turn if there is a problem with buying or selling your home?

"At one of the most stressful times in our lives, it is good to know that the OEA scheme is there should a problem arise that cannot be resolved with the agent involved."
