Waterfront homes could rival Docklands
COULD a waterfront in the county become the new London Docklands?
A national newspaper certainly seems to think so after devoting four pages to the Medway area in a supplement published.
The Daily Telegraph’s London Property section points out that the area is on the up with up to £1billion pouring in over the next 10 years due to the Thames Gateway regeneration schemes.
The article (three pages of articles, pictures and graphics plus a colour front cover) highlights the benefits of the Channel Tunnel Rail Link which will "whisk commuters from Strood to Stratford International Station in 30 minutes flat" when it is completed in 2009.
It reports on some of the big developers who have moved into the area such as Berkeley Homes, which launches a development at Pier Road, Gillingham later this year and looks at the growth of St Mary’s Island at Chatham Maritime.
Medway Renaissance spokesman John Ryall said: "The changes and developments within the Medway Towns is one of the most exciting things to happen within the Thames Gateway regeneration project.
"The area is fast becoming a new city within Thames Gateway. It is a message that we have been putting out for years but only now are the private sector, property developers and even property writers beginning to see Medway in the same light, so this is very positive indeed."
