THE continued shortage of new properties for sale in the South East is fuelling house price rises, according to a new survey by the Royal Institution of Chartered Surveyors, published in September.

For the second consecutive month, the region has seen a slight increase in the average number of homes for sale on chartered surveyors estate agents’ books. This has helped to slightly moderate price inflation, but this figure of 59 homes is still well below the longterm average of 119.

David Tuffin, chairman of RICS South East, said: “The shortage of property for sale shows no sign of easing and will continue to impact on prices for many months to come. Other influence on prices, such as interest rates and sales, have remained static for several months, fear of job losses and an uncertain international situation.”
