Bill and Rachel Simpson and their three teenagers had quite a wish list when looking for a home in Kent. But one 1960s house in the village of Bridge, near Canterbury, took them by surprise.
Househunters Bill and Rachel Simpson’s wish list specified quite clearly that they wanted a lovely period property or a luxurious new build.
So, they took themselves by surprise when they fell in love with 1960s-built Lindisfarne, in the village of Bridge, just a few miles from Canterbury.
The five-bedroom house came complete with two trademarks of 1960s homes; polished parquet floors and, most importantly for the couple’s children, stacks of living space.
Five years later, with the kids beginning to fly the nest, the house is on the market again.
From the five-bar gate, with parking and turning area to the front, an entrance porch leads to a hall with an interesting curved staircase and doors leading out to the main rooms.
A double aspect sitting room has a stone fireplace and polished herringbone parquet flooring, with doors opening to a triple aspect conservatory.
A dining room connects directly to the kitchen/breakfast room, which has a stone floor, solid wood drawers and cupboards and granite worktops.
There is a four-oven gas Aga with two electric hobs and two hotplates, a double butler sink and a central island unit.
A family room is double aspect and has a wood-burning stove.
There is a small study, with parquet floors, a utility and two downstairs cloakrooms.
On the first floor, the property is equally as spacious, with a triple aspect principal bedroom suite with en-suite shower room.
The guest bedroom suite has an en-suite cloakroom and there are three further double bedrooms and a family bathroom/shower room.
