AROUND 100 jobs are on offer at one of Canterbury’s largest stores. Debenhams are looking to take on dozens of temporary and permanent staff in the run-up to Christmas.
Around 70 people will be taken on as Christmas temps in a variety of customer service roles. A further 30 are needed as permanent staff throughout the store and its concessions.
As well as people to serve customers, operate tills and replenish stock, there are also positions behind the scenes in the stock room, loading bays, finance office and restaurant.
Store Manager Peter Moore said: "We currently have about 300 staff, so we are looking at increasing the numbers by a third.
"The concessions are separate companies who work within the store, but we are joining forces to get to as many potential employees as possible."
Christmas staff will be needed from the end of October until the January sales, whereas permanent staff are needed immediately.
Mr Moore said: "Many of our current staff started as temps, so even if someone is looking for something permanent, a temporary position could lead to a long-term career.
"But we are also expecting applications from students, or parents wanting to earn a bit more for Christmas."
Full-time, part-time and weekend hours are all available, and Mr Moore said they are hoping to find hours to suit the right candidates, rather than people who can work fixed hours.
"We open seven days a week, and longer hours up to Christmas so we can offer maximum flexibility. People who can't work during the week shouldn't be put off applying."
The company will be at the Jobs Fair at the County Hotel, High Street, Canterbury on Wednesday October 6, and applicants will be pre-screened before interviews are held the following weekend.
Mr Moore said: "We are trying to make the process as fast as possible, so people attending the fair on the Wednesday could start work for us the following Monday."
People unable to attend the fair can book an interview on 08445 616162.
