Considering a position at BAE Systems?

This year, the Rochester UK site has a number of roles on offer, from Engineering, Operations, and Commercial, to Information Technology, Finance, Project Management, and more.

Culture

BAE Systems has established a number of employee-led resource groups (ERGs). ERGs help everyone to feel included, and promote a culture of conversation and support. At Rochester, ERG communities range from mental health and wellbeing, to LGBTQ+, cultural diversity, disabilities, and gender equality. The company also offers a group focused on supporting veterans and reservists.

Davesh Patel, hardware team leader at BAE Systems in Rochester, said, “BAE Systems’ trusting, supportive, and encouraging ethos makes working at Rochester a joy. There is a solid support network from the colleagues sitting next to you, all the way through to management.”

Wellbeing

Additionally, all employees at Rochester participate in mental health awareness training, and the company has established a network of mental health first aiders.

Project Manager Alison Goodman added, “BAE Systems provides excellent resources free of charge to support employees. I’m the site representative for an ERG focused on promoting wellbeing and assisting those who require help.”

“It’s great that the company recognises that mental health is just as important as physical health.”

Furthermore, the variety of roles on offer gives employees the opportunity for flexible working, helping to create a positive work-life balance.

Employees have ample opportunities to connect during the work day. They can visit the onsite social hub, where there is a café, and places to play table-top tennis or football, and chess.

Outside of work, there are a range of employee-led clubs: from photography, badminton, and cycling, to tai chi, board games, and football. Social events and wellness activities, including fitness and meditation classes, an annual site barbeque, and regular theatre trips are also offered.

Committed to investing in the communities in which it operates, BAE Systems supports programmes that are closely connected to the business, from working with charities that support armed forces personnel and their families, to encouraging young people to pursue science, technology, engineering and mathematics careers.

Rochester employees are supported to volunteer with one of the site’s sixteen community investment partners, including Age UK Medway, Medway Food Bank and Medway Street Angels.

Earlier this year, the Rochester site donated £100,000 to the Royal British Legion Industries (RBLI) Centenary Village development in Aylesford, which will support armed forces veterans and their families. Employees at Rochester continue to volunteer at the RBLI, and the company has provided further donations to the veterans there.
