Identity fraud can affect your job prospects

You've got the new job how could anything go wrong?

Unless you have experienced identity theft for yourself, you probably do not know how it can devastate all aspects of your life. You have been offered a great new job; you have handed in your notice and even treated your self to a whole new business wardrobe. Then the offer is withdrawn virtually without explanation, all they would say was they have done a background check and decided you were now considered "unsuitable".

A friend tells you to get a credit report and to your horror you find you have become the victim of identity theft; its no consolation but the Home Office, in 2006, reported that identity fraud costs the UK economy £1.7 billion, so you are not alone.

The impact on you as an individual can be wide spread and long lasting; you could be turned down for a new mobile phone contract, refused a credit card or declined a loan for a new car.

Credit references agencies – the largest in the UK is Experian – collate information about your financial background and past behaviour and format this data into your unique credit report.

You can see your credit report online now FREE with CreditExpert, the credit monitoring service from Experian.
