THE staid, grey image of public sector work is being given a splash of colour as Kent County Council goes on the road with a series of jobs fairs designed to tackle those perceptions.

To celebrate national Public Sector Jobs Week, KCC is running the fairs throughout February and has launched a new careers website at Kent.gov.uk.

Amanda Beer, head of personnel and development at KCC, said: "Having recently become one of only five excellent rated authorities in the country, Kent County Council is at the fore-front of transformational local government.

"Our modernising of services ensures there are plenty of exciting career options.

"There is an enormous diversity of careers available in areas such as media relations, IT, legal, finance, management of public rights of way and roads, civil marriage ceremonies, youth work, and educational psychology to name but a few.

"National initiatives such as this are really important, because like many jobs, there can be outdated perceptions of working in the public sector and events such as this give us the opportunity to demonstrate that this is a great place to work."

Where to find the jobs fairs:

* February 6 and 7 at the Ashford International Hotel in partnership with The Kent Invicta Chamber of Commerce;
* February 23 at Mid Kent College at Chatham;
* March 2 at the Marriot Hotel in Bexleyheath in partnership with the Kent Messenger Group.
