WHEN Susanna Vaughan went back to her home island of Barbados she thought she was going for a holiday.
But it turned out to be a busman’s holiday for Susanna who runs the Connexions Recruitment agency in Balmoral Road, Gillingham.
Now she is back with a contract to recruit 100 nurses for the hospital in Bridgetown.
“I heard there was a shortage of nurses in Barbados,” she said. “And when I spoke to the human resources manager at the local hospital, he told me they were 190 nurses short.
“They are not allowed to recruit from England directly, but as an agency I am able to recruit for them. And I am more than happy to do that for my home island.”
She said there were a number of nurses in Medway who came from Barbados and would welcome an opportunity to return home. Others might enjoy working in a new environment for a while.
The hospital is offering two-year contracts, which include free flights and accommodation, with 21 days a year paid leave and sick pay.
“The money in Barbados would be a bit less than a nurse might earn here,” she said. “But the cost of living is less, and there is the attraction of constant sunshine, wonderful beaches and a relaxed lifestyle.”
