Change in town centre's road network delayed

ALL CHANGE: How the new road system will work

THE long-awaited transformation of Chatham's one-way system, which should have come into operation today, has been put off until the middle of next month.

Medway Council's regeneration team has put the postponement down to a change in the original plans.

Council officers wanted to close Chatham for a weekend to paint all the road markings in the correct place. But under new plans, the lines will be painted in phases meaning the work will be delayed. It was originally planned to be complete by next week.

Dubbed Two Way Day, the launch will see a two-way system around Chatham Town Centre for the first time in 10 years. The launch will now happen on Monday, September 18.
