TRAFFIC was getting back to normal in South Kent on Saturday after a power failure in the Channel Tunnel caused hours of widespread disruption.
The problem was solved on Friday evening and extra services laid on to clear the backlog.
About 200 passengers were stranded inside one of the tunnels for hours. Although services continued in the second tunnel there were delays of up to six hours for customers. Traffic jams up to eight miles long built up.
Phase One of Operation Stack, which closes the coastbound carriageway of the M20 between Hythe and Cheriton for use as a lorry park, was lifted overnight.
