Chemical spill sparks traffic delays

A CHEMICAL spill from a lorry caused delays to motorists in Five Oak Green, near Tonbridge, today.

Police and four fire crews rushed to the roundabout in Badsell Road at 11.30am after fork lift truck batteries on the back of a lorry fell over and started leaking.

The standard response to a chemical spillage was activated and crews, including firefighters in breathing apparatus and protective clothing, spent almost two hours preventing the corrosive acid from entering the watercourse.

The Highways Agency then took over, laying sand on the road. Police were on hand to control traffic flow past the scene.
