Could renewed Cliffe flight plans be on the horizon?

GRAVESEND could be sitting in the flight path of a possible new airport.

Boris Johnson’s office has admitted the new Mayor of London wants a new airport somewhere east of London and has refused to rule out the Thames Gateway area.

In an email to Gravesham’s Liberal Democrats parliamentary spokesman Bruce Parmenter, Boris Johnson’s staff revealed the mayor’s view but refused to be drawn on where he wants the airport to be built.

Bruce Parmenter, said: “We should be increasing the capacity of our existing rail network rather than destroying huge swathes of north Kent with a thoughtless new airport.”

In 2003 the Government dropped the idea of building an airport on the nearby Cliffe marshes after 150,000 people campaigned against the proposals.
