KENT will today say goodbye to the last of the slam door trains running on the county's tracks.

The 1804 service from Cannon Street to Ashford marks the last appearance of this type of train across the region.

Slam door trains have been widely criticised for their safety record because of concerns over the doors and lack of protection during a crash.

Train companies across the South were told they had to finally get rid of them some six years ago.
