End of the road for Sheppey bridge emails

The second crossing is due to be opened officially on July 3

AS THE opening of the Sheppey Crossing draws nearer, the free e-mail notification system on bridge lifts will stop.

The last e-mail will be sent out on the morning on July 3, the day roads minister Dr Stephen Ladyman is due to officially open the new bridge.

Medway Ports, which runs the Port of Sheerness funded a website for the Kingsferry Bridge service, supported by Kent Police. The website will close down the same day.

Hundreds of people signed up to the service, with e-mails sent out by Medway Navigation once or twice daily and at weekends. Motorists were also alerted to any hold-ups caused by accidents near the bridge.

Maria Clarke, Medway Ports spokeswoman, said: “Thank you very much to those of you who have taken the trouble to e-mail to thank Medway Ports for the service over the last few years.

“As the website will also be closing down, if there is anything you still want to download from there you need to do it before July 3.”
