A MEETING has taken place to lobby for improvements to the M20.

Kent County Council and Maidstone Borough Council met with the Highways Agency to discuss action needed to tackle peak time congestion between junction four and eight of the motorway, including variable speed limits similar to those in operation on the M25.

Cllr Malcolm Robertson (Lib Dem), Maidstone council's cabinet member for transportation, said: "The Highways Agency was criticised by the National Audit Office (NAO) for neglecting strategic routes such as the M20 and its refusal to back the kind of solutions we have been demanding for some time.

"We hope they are now more receptive and will help us to find ways to resolve congestion problems through Maidstone in light of what the NAO has said."
