MOTORISTS appear to have been confronted with few problems or disruptions following the opening of the new two-way road system in Chatham.

It began operating on Monday morning and Medway council's director of regeneration Robin Cooper said: "It's gone very well. We are very pleased. The general impression we have been getting from motorists is that they are happy with it.

"But if drivers do find any difficulties they can approach any of the teams around the two way system or call our helpline on 01634 3345678 or visit our website."

Medway Council is maintaining a presence around Chatham for the remainder of this week to iron out any problmes that may arise with the new system.

Kent Police have also assigned several officers to traffic duties from 7am to 7pm for the rest of the week.
