THE misery Operation Stack inevitably brings can evoke some strong reactions from Kent's driving public - but it's rare to find someone actually in favour of it.

One cheeky commuter has created a "We LOVE Operation Stack" group on social networking site Facebook, and is inviting others to join.

The "just for fun" group features pictures of queuing lorries and Kent Police chief constable Mike Fuller in a hi-vis jacket on the closed motorway.

The group description reads: "All those giant coloured boxes and flashing red and blue lights make the place look reeeeally Christmassy!"

But the sentiment does not appear to be shared by everyone – the group has just five members, and there are a further three Facebook groups dedicated to lambasting Operation Stack on a regular basis.

The most popular is "The M20 is not a sodding Car Park! We hate Operation Stack", designed purely for people to "rant" about the ensuing traffic problems when sections of the M20 are closed off.

The site currently has more than 800 members. Comments posted on the group "wall" include: "Two hours plus to get from Chatham to Ashford, my life is becoming a black abyss!!!!" and "AAAAAAARRRRRRRRRGGGGGGGGGGGHHHHHH!! STOP IT!!!!!!!!!!!"

"STOP OPERATION STACK ON THE M20" has 113 members and links visitors to a Downing Street petition calling for an end to the measure, while 15-member strong travel group "can i claim some road tax back for operation stack (sic)" asks for visitors' views on getting compensation from the Government.
