SETTING new standards for style on a budget - that's the aim of the new Hyundai Sonata, which goes on sale in January, 2002. It is set to win over not only private buyers, but fleet and small business owners as well.
The new car features the latest styling and uprated suspension - as well as the potent 2.7 V6 engine and H-matic automatic gearbox jointly developed with Porsche.
Also included is electronic brake force distribution and side airbags on all models as standard. The body is 37mm longer, 2mm wider and 12mm taller.
It is also quieter, thanks to the use of better soundproofing material in the door frames, panels and trim.
Two models will be available: the 2.0 CDX and the 2.7 V6. Prices have yet to be finalised, but are likely to be similar to the current Sonata.
Standard equipment for the CDX will include anti-lock brakes, air conditioning, CD player, sunroof, alloy wheels, electric mirrors and dual front and side airbags. The 2.7 V6 adds H-tronic gearbox, traction control system, climate control, cruise control, CD player, electric seats and leather trim.
