Tipped lorry causes road closure

A LORRY carrying tissue paper was left balancing precariously under a train bridge on Wednesday.

The A20 at Harrietsham was shut in both directions when the vehicle clipped the bridge, wedging it at a 45 degree angle in the middle of the road.

The Kent Fire and Rescue Service attended the incident at 10.40am along with police and engineers from Network Rail.

Because of fears the lorry could fall over, traffic was stopped on both sides of the bridge and long tailbacks formed.

The lorry was recovered by 11.40am and engineers declared the bridge was safe.

No trains were delayed.
