Villagers moved their campaign for improved road safety up a gear today.
Around 80 Cliffe Woods residents lined the main road through the village and held up yellow placards to draw attention to the problems caused by the amount of traffic passing through.
They are also worried about the number of HGVs which they say are too fast, too wide and too heavy to be using such a narrow route.
They argue that over the years the number of heavy good vehicles has increased to the point where it has become too dangerous for them to walk, cycle or drive along.
The campaign has picked up speed with an application from paving company Brett Landscaping which wants to increase the number of heavy goods vehicles moving to and from its factories in Salt Lane, Cliffe.
Cllr Tom Mason joined the protest this morning.
He said: "The number of lorries are causing a great deal of difficulties for residents. They are shaking their roofs and foundations and they can hardly ever cross the road."
Jo Brown has lived in Cliffe Woods since 1975 and helped to organise the protest. She said: "We are really pleased with the turnout and people are definitely behind us. We could have done with some more banners because people are really taking notice of them."
