Hogging the middle lane, foreign lorries and people using their mobile phone while driving.

Those are the issues motorists in Kent have raising as Kent's police officers ask just how we would like to see our busiest roads policed.

Officers were out in force, at the junction 8 services of the M20 on Wednesday, trying to find out how drivers would like to see Kent's motorways and A-roads patrolled.

The M25, M20, M2, A20 and A2 are known as the county's Strategic Road Network, and are the gateway to Europe and the UK.

The M20 and M2 alone have more than 260,000 vehicles per day on average.

Inspector Geoff Wood said “This is a fact finding mission. It's our responsibility to police the busy roads and to make them safe.

"A lot of the feedback relates to foreign registered lorries and vehicles.

“People have also told us they don’t like driving alongside someone who is using a mobile phone.

"They don’t like people hogging the middle lane and displaying irresponsible lane discipline.”

"By asking people today what affects them, we are then in a position to alter our service to respond to those concerns.”
